The knowledge, accessibility and quality of Snake Bite First Aid can be the difference between death and survival. We share our country with over 170 species of land snakes, some with venom more toxic than any other snakes in the world. In Australia there is in excess of 3,000 snake bites per year. (Weldon, 2017) The Brown snake alone has caused 23 of the 35 snake bite deaths recorded between 2000 and 2016 by the National Coronial Information Service. While the perception remains that snake bite incidents occur in rural areas, it has been found that nearly half the incidents occurred in an urban environment.
